Strippit Punch Press – Tricks of the Trade

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Punching tricks of the trade from Wilson Tool for your V Series Strippit Punch Press with thick style tooling.

Q:   I am having trouble with sheet distortion using a cluster tool on our thick turret punch press. Is there anything that can be done to reduce this distortion?

A:   Sheet distortion is a problem that can be quite costly in multiple ways. It can cause rejections, multiple operations, or scrap if a corner catches the upper turret and folds up.

There are a number of ways to deal with distortion when using a cluster punch. Distortion can be controlled somewhat by some or all of the following methods:

1. Fine tuning your punching pattern – consider a random punch pattern rather than sequential.

2. Make sure the tooling is sharp.

3. Back bend the sheet between the die and stripper to reduce distortion by 30-80%. Consult your Sales Engineer or the Wilson Tool sales desk for this solution to your sheet distortion problems.

The photograph shows a part that was produced using a cluster tool. The die and stripper were modified to virtually eliminate any sheet distortion.   perfs Strippit Punch Press Tricks of the Trade

More Than Just A Spindle Repair Company.

Friday, March 19th, 2010

The other day we were contacted by a long time customer that required a Mori Seiki SH-50 Horizontal 10,000 RPM spindle repair. They were looking for a company that could not only rebuild the spindle but also provide a complete service call, including the removal and reinstallation of the spindle. TD Spindle repair stepped up to the plate with its 15 plus years of CNC machine tools repair experience.

This job was on the challenging side because the machine had crashed and the pallet changer clamps that lock the pallet to the rotary were all snapped in half. It was compounded by the customer’s inability to remove the spindle on their own. Service Manager, William Janes, implemented a plan that would take several hours but would remove the spindle without the use of the rotary table to pull the spindle out. Mel and I personally went out to oversee the project. As usual, William was right with the plan he came up with. William leaned on his many years of machine tool repair experience to remove this four foot monster of a spindle that clearly weighed over 500 pounds.

Now that the spindle has been completely removed, TD Spindle Repair can now begin to repair and rebuild it. TD Spindle repair offers this service to all our customers in Southern California. This makes TD Spindle Repair a unique player in the spindle repair and rebuild business.
