$69,900.00

How much do I have to spend on a waterjet cutting system?

Caldwell Machinbery offers new waterjet cutting machines starting with $40K only. A middle line of product typically goes from $120,000. We can certainly meet your customization needs. Please contact us for a free and no obligation quotation.

What tolerances can we expect from waterjet cutting?

80% of world’s abasivejet waterjets have kerfs around ±0.003 inch or looser. Others may have kerfs around ±0.0005inch to ±0.001. With Waterjet technology, the tolerances will be sharper.

Should I cut underwater?
Underwater waterjet cutting reduces the noise to under 75dB and eliminates material frosting within 1/16″ from the jet. T he downside of this process is you need water level control on your catcher in order to see the underwater cutting process. Without the control, you need to work underwater and handle the cutting process.

How thick can it cut?
Operators cut up to 8-inch steel and titanium in production. There have been cases where 12″ and even 15″ thick materials have been cut. However, majority of cutting from operators ranges from 1/4″ to 2″.

What kind of abrasive are you using?
Garnet is by far the most commonly used abrasive material. It is abundant, cheap, enhances cutting speed, increases tube life and reduces health hazards. Other abrasives include olivine sand, aluminum oxide, and some man-made materials

At what pressure do you cut?
Waterjets cuts at 90,000psi. It is also the maximum intensifier pump pressure. Although higher pressures can result in higher maintenance cost on intensifier pumps especially on the seals, the result is higher cutting speed and efficiency.

What taper can I expect?
With a Waterjet system, you will experience virtually no taper. In the case of conventional waterjet cutting, the taper you get is a function of the cut speed. However, the worst taper you will get will be equal to the maximum kerf width at the top (example: 0.035″) and 0.000″. at the bottom. As you slow down the taper will be reduced until you get parallel sides. Most tapers you see on precise cuts are 0.002″ to 0.004″ on a side.

How much water will you use when cutting at 55,000 psi?
Each 0.010″ orifice uses 0.5 gpm.
Each 0.013″ orifice uses 0.82 gpm
Each 0.016″ orifice uses 1.24 gpm

When is maintenance required at the pump?
You need to replace the high pressure seal after 400 to 1200 hours of usage on a 55,000 psi intensifier and replace the seal after 200 to 600 hours of usage on a regular pump.

What is the minimum water level depths?
In most waterjet systems 36 inches of water in the catchers dissipates the energy of the jet.

How long does the material support last?
You can expect hundreds of hours of production time from the support grating before the need to replacing it. We recommend that, as long as you don’t cut just one pattern over the same section for thousands of parts, slats and grates can be shifted, swapped, and flipped just as with plasma and laser cutting. Thus, this will extend the life of the grating supports.

How long does the mixing tube last?
The highest quality ceramic carbide mixing tubes last 30% longer than other mixing tubes. A tube such as this can deliver 150 hours of cutting time for 0.020″ in diameter. Many users keep the mixing tubes longer and use them to cut parts which require looser tolerances.

How much abrasive is used?
For the most efficient cutting, cutting heads on a 55,000 psi intensifier use:
0.010/0.030     0.9 lb/min
0.014/0.040     1.4 lb/min
0.018/0.050     2.5 lb/min

What about programing A&V Waterjet machine?
Our systems are relatively easy to program as compare to any other waterjet cutting system. Our professional PC based waterjet software is capable of reading any 2D DXF files. Programming for abrasive waterjets is quick and easy. An operator with little experience should be able to learn how to program and operate the machine within one week.

What weight is required to press and hold down the workpiece?

Since the force exerted on the workpiece is very small (under 1 lb. for precision cuts and under 5 lbs. for average cuts), the need for very large and stiff fixtures is eliminated. Many customers use simple weights to hold the parts in place.

What are the operating costs of a waterjet?
Hourly machine cost ranges from $19 per hour for the small head (0.010/0.030) and up to $35 per hour for the large head (0.016/0.040). It does not include labor, lease, and depreciation.

What is the cost of the abrasive?
Abrasive will cost between $0.16 per pound to $0.40 per pound delivered, depending on the type and quantity you purchase.

How loud is it?
Noise from the waterjet is dependent upon the distance the supersonic jet is exposed to the open air. If you are cutting underwater, the noise level will be under 75 dB. If you are cutting above water, and especially if there is a large distance between the mixing tube and the work piece, the noise will be much higher, up to 95 dB. In these cases, most customers enclose the entire work area.

How do we dispose of water/garnet?
Neither water nor garnet are toxic or hazardous in any way. Water, when properly filtered for turbidity, can be flush down to the drainage systems. The garnet waste can usually be dumped in a standard landfill.

Is this pure water?
It is clean water. Most of our customers use softened tap water. Intensifier pumps should be supplied with filter cartridges that clean the water down to 0.5 micron. De-ionized or reverse osmosis systems are generally not recommended. These types of systems can make the water too clean, which makes the water aggressive and harmful to the pump.

Do you recycle the water?
Recycling systems are available. However, because waterjet systems use a small amount of water it is not economically viable for most users.

ToolCell LVDST 490x392 LVD STRIPPIT INTRODUCES AUTO TOOL CHANGING PRESS BRAKE

Akron, NY – LVD Strippit introduces the ToolCell press brake system with integrated tool changer unit. ToolCell’s automated tool changing system reduces press brake set up time, maximizing throughput and efficiency for small to medium batch production.

ToolCell addresses the trend toward reduced batch sizes and shortened lead times, as well as the need to increase throughput to allow for reduced stock levels and the manufacture of the exact quantity just in time for the production line. ToolCell also reduces labor cost by eliminating the necessity for skilled labor experienced in tool set-up procedures.

INNOVATIVE TOOL CHANGER
ToolCell is a hydraulic press brake with integrated storage of a library of top and bottom tooling housed within a “tooling stadium” located under the machine’s backgauge. An innovative gripper design built into the machine’s backgauge finger allows the backgauge to serve as the tool changer mechanism.

As the operator prepares for the next job, selecting the worksheet or moving blank parts to the machine, the press brake automatically changes the top and bottom tooling as required for the job. Tools are all held within the machine, significantly minimizing tool changeover time.

PRECISION SET UPS
All tool stations are precisely positioned by the gripper mechanism. Adjustment of tooling stations typically experienced when manually setting tools is eliminated, therefore optimizing overall bending performance.

ADVANCED PRESS BRAKE
ToolCell is a robust, precision press brake equipped with state-of-the-art hydraulics and electronics offered in multi-axis configurations. The press brake is built on a rigid frame design to ensure accuracy.

This press brake system features the patented Easy-Form® Laser in process angle monitoring and correction technology ensuring consistency from the first to the last part.. Easy-Form Laser uses measurement at the front and back of the die to determine the exact value of the angle of the workpiece. The sensing devices transmit information in real time to the CNC control unit, which processes it and subsequently recalculates the correct depth adjustment in process to obtain the correct angle. The bending process is not interrupted, and no production time is lost.

ToolCell is equipped with LVD Strippit’s latest generation 19” touch screen control, Touch-B. Touch-B features intuitive graphical icons used to control all parameters of the machine, ensuring fast and efficient operation. ToolCell can also be simply programmed offline using LVD Strippit’s CADMAN®-B Tool Changer module.

ToolCell is initially in a 150 ton by 10 foot configuration with additional models of 190 or 240 ton bending force and 10 foot or 13 foot bend length configurations to follow. The system features capacity to hold up to two complete lengths of self-seating top tooling (punches) and five complete lengths of bottom tooling (Vee dies). The tooling stadium can be equipped with a flexible tooling configuration to suit specific application requirements.

thumbcc lvdadaptivelaser450px LVD introduces patented Adaptive Laser Cutting system for high productivity, consistent processing accuracy.

LVD introduces patented Adaptive Laser Cutting system for high productivity, consistent processing accuracy. LVD introduces its patented Adaptive Laser Cutting system technology that provides real-time monitoring and feedback control of the laser cutting process to achieve high productivity, quality control and reduced scrap.

The development of ALC continues LVD’s history of innovation in the field of machine intelligence and real-time in-process control systems such as the company’s patented Easy-Form® Laser bend angle monitoring and correction system introduced in 2002, which has revolutionized the industry assuring consistent and accurate bending from the first to the last part.

ALC uses a dynamic feedback system to monitor and regulate laser power, speed and assist gas pressure in real time during the cutting process, automatically optimizing cutting parameters and ensuring a consistently accurate cut.

Unlike other process controls systems, ALC does not rely on pre-defined parameters but measures and adapts in process to achieve the optimal cutting results.

This unique system is particularly useful when processing thicker mild steels in an unmanned environment. In such applications, machine speed is often restricted to ensure reliability and account for potential variations in material properties, limiting productivity and increasing the cost per part. ALC automatically adjusts to changing conditions, processing at the highest speed with the most efficiency and so alleviates the need to restrict or control the laser cutting system, providing up to a 10 percent increase in productivity. Consistently accurate processing also eliminates scrap or rework of expensive thicker materials.

ALC is now a standard feature on select models of LVD’s Impuls series laser cutting machines.     633241907558007994 m LVD introduces patented Adaptive Laser Cutting system for high productivity, consistent processing accuracy.

An Affordable 5 Axis Water Jet

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Through dedicated research and development, our waterjet cutting machines are playing an important role in processing metal, steel, titanium, marble, stone, granite, glass, ceramic, plastic and composite materials. With established reputation in quality, service, and unbeatable price, A&V products are enjoyed by our customers worldwide.

In this particular five-axis design, one CNC ultra-high pressure waterjet cutting head contains at least five axis (three linear coordinates and two rotating coordinates) with coordinated processing motion through CNC. Compared to an ordinary waterjet cutting machine, the biggest advantage of a five-axis waterjet design is that the cutting head can rotate in any direction, which can produce a pre-set cut bevel at any angle. According to material type and its thickness, different angle settings can be controlled through computer software, which gives you the ability to have no tapper on your finished cut edge.
five%20axis An Affordable 5 Axis Water Jet
The JETLINE high pressure pump combines all the advantages of KMT Waterjet Systems for waterjet cutting applications. For decades, KMT high-pressure technology has set the standard in this field, offering unrivalled efficiency, high continuous load capability and availability.

The CNC five axis ultra high-pressure water jet cutting machine(KMT intensifier) innovatively adapted the five axis control software in traditional high-pressure water jet control system.

The machine body and supporting table (water tank) have a separate structure. This design eliminates any negative impact to cutting accuracy as a result of any change in the supporting table. This highly stable structure is easy to be locally updated and maintained.
